This semester I have two courses. The first is a colloquium, taught by David Hackett Fischer, covering American history to about 1877. The second is a readings course, also with Mr. Fischer, in which I’m reading widely in the literature of American history up to 1800. I also have a writing project which is being supervised by Jane Kamensky. I’m writing about jeremiads during the War of 1812; in particular, I’m trying to look deeply at the lives and thoughts of a half dozen or so ministers who preached jeremiads in New England. The goal is to have an article-length paper by the end of the semester.
